Every Day Italian

I knew that looking back and all the times I had cried would one day make me laugh. What I didn't realize, was that looking back on all the times I laughed would one day make me cry.

Sunny Side Up

I've fallen into the pattern of staying up late and sleeping late. This doesn't suit the morning person inside me that wants to be up when the sun is up.
With this schedule the weeks seem to fly by.
Today Sheri is leaving for Austin for a conference. Her family, everyone but the 7 cats, are making the journey to Texas. It seems that just a few weeks ago they were here visiting....oh wait they were here just a few weeks ago. They just can't get enough of Texas. I'm excited about their return visit, and the others that have decided to join them this time around.
Time for work again.

TrueLove.com?

There are so many online sites that promise the perfect match. Is there any truth to this? Can these internet sites find your soulmate, I think not. It is hard enough to find your soulmate face to face, seeing the truth first hand. Adding in a computer and a third party couldn't possibly make this dating thing easier. In lieu of my attempt to re-join the world of dating by going on a semi-blind date, I thought I would share my frustration and hope that someone has insight from or wisdom to offer.
Years ago a friend of mine, Graham Bilello, wrote this about the dating game.

....and there came a day in which every man must batter up, get back in the game, and play it well, for it is simply a game, a game in which all people must play with caution, confidence, and wit...a game in which we shall conquer the very confusing beings of the opposite sex...the game is scary, once in, we want out...once out, we feel like losers... get off the bench and play ball...
So, I guess considering the " dating game" .....but I'm going kicking and screaming.

Open Ceremonies

I've never been one of those people that gets real involved with the Olympics. I'll make a point to tune in occasionally to watch the year's new outstanding athlete. Well, this year has started out a bit different, considering my Olympic-crazed roommate. Last night I sat down to watch the opening ceremonies, which I found to be quite interesting and absolutely beautiful.
After the fist 20, of what seemed like 400 million countries walking in for the parade of Nations,I start to doze. I am awakened by the strangest comment by one of the announcers. To be sure I heard this correctly, I replayed the segment (thanks to tiVo). So, there begins by list of comments and observations while watching the ceremonies.

Very confused on the music selection for the presentations of countries...the cheesiest American 80's music. Selections such as Sweet Dreams by Annie Lennox, I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor (a personal favorite), Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles. If you are going to go 80's put in some Styx, Guns N' Roses, Bangles, Def Leppard, Duran Duran, Journey...I think the song selection could have used a bit of work, but it was very entertaining nonetheless.

  • Poor Girl. (long pause) She got hit with the ugly stick a few too many times.
-Sheri

  • Background: The announcers are watching France parade in Olympic stadium. They are commenting on France's rising star athlete. Announcer: You know, he also dated Ms. France. Flash to another (not very attractive) athlete. Announcer: Uhh..That's not her.

  • Announcer (talking about Georg Hackl): Ya gotta love the nickname "the Speeding White Sausage." I bet he gets picked on.

  • Germany....Looks good to me. -Sheri
  • Italy.......Looks good to me. -Sheri
  • Albania....Looks really good to me. -Sheri

Sheri's new fascination with Bode Miller lead to a t-shirt idea.... BODE-licious for the t-shirt design, check out her site.

Painting the Pigs

I know, it's about time I updated this thing. Tonight Sheri is staying late for a meeting and to catch up on some work. So, I'm spending time with myself.
What do I do when I spend time with myself? First, I put on some good music and grab some nail polish. I know what you're thinking, a completely girly thing to do, but it works for me. Once the toes are painted, put on my jammies and journal. If the mood strikes I'll pick up a good book or a sweet movie. So far it's been a great night, a little quiet, but satisfying.
In the weeks ahead....

I'll be working a bunch of nights.
Sadie is coming to visit in March.
Lil might be coming to visit this Saturday.
Not much excitement right now, but I'm not complaining.

Did you know that my favorite day of the week is Thursday?

What happened to January?

It seems that just a few days ago I was reminding myself to write the year as '06, and now we are already two months in this new year. Stop the world I want to get off!
So much on my mind, the internal struggle trying to get out. My roommate is so very wise. Her blog today was exactly what I needed to hear. "Just breathe." It seems easy enough, but at times can prove to be a task. I'm glad I have someone trying to keep me sane.
